DIY Smoothie Bowl Party

Earlier in the spring, I attended an event sponsored by The Feed Feed and Bob’s Red Mill. It was a brunch event that included a DIY Smoothie Bowl Bar, and I loved this idea! I can’t imagine anything more suitable as a theme for a really memorable and fun summer party then a DIY Smoothie Bowl Party – no more having to stand in front of a hot grill with burgers (although that can be good too). For really hot summer days though, and/or for a healthy party, here’s how to put together a cool summer brunch! This idea would be so original for a wedding or baby shower too.

The setup is simple: two pitchers, and two squeeze bottles, each filled with a different colored smoothie. In this event, we had a Rhubarb Smoothie as one option, and a Spicy Greens Smoothie enriched with Vanilla Protein Powder Booster, but it’s your choice what flavors and colors you would like for your two smoothies. The intent of the two smoothies is to offer two options of contrasting colors that can make it more fun for each guest to decorate their smoothie bowls.

The pitchers are used for those who want a larger portion of the smoothie for the base of the bowl. The squeeze bottles can be several squeeze bottles available in case you would rather have a squirt or more controlled smaller helping in the smoothie bowl.

Next, have an optional additional squeeze bottle of a creamier, yogurt or cashew cream like liquid – here, there was a lovely Chamomile Cashew Cream. Then, fill the table with your DIY Smoothie Bar – bowls and spoons of lots of toppings. Table cards with descriptions using a scripted font help your guests identify what is what.

Think a variety of textures and colors, like

  • Gluten-Free Organic Rolled Oats
  • Paleo Muesli
  • Dried Blueberries – or try this Bob’s Red Mill Apple Blueberry Granola as well as other flavors like honey oat, honey almond, etc.
  • Tart Cherries
  • Strawberries
  • Date Crumbles
  • Pumpkin Seeds
  • Sunflower Seeds
  • Poppy Seeds
  • Sesame Seeds
  • Garbanzo Beans
  • Rose Granola
  • Dried Rose Petals
  • Amaranth Pops
  • Bee Pollen
  • Sliced almonds
  • And so much more!

The prep for this party would be so easy – the smoothies will be the majority of it, and you can even prepare that the day before and have ready in the refrigerator. All of these toppings you can find reuse for any leftovers in future smoothies and yogurt bowls that will encourage you to continue the healthy breakfast trend at home. I really loved the idea when I attended this event and just wanted to share it so you can also be inspired.

What smoothie flavors or toppings would you want to make sure you include in your smoothie bowl? For me, I loaded up on the dried rose petals and rose granola, and the amaranth pops and toasted coconuts, with a final sprinkle of bee pollen, with a spicy green smoothie base that included spinach and a little heat from jalapenos.

Here you can see I used a base of the Spicy Greens Smoothie and used the brighter Rhubarb more as a highlight by drizzling it on top. When I make smoothies I like ones that have a little kick to them, and so here’s my favorite combo. Feel free to play with it as it’s just a base – throw in a half avocado for more creaminess, or a spoonful of honey for more sweetness, or add more fruit.

Spicy Greens Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of spinach
  • 1 cup almond milk or coconut water
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup frozen fruit like banana or mango or pineapple (this is my trick to help encourage having smoothies easily – just have big bags of frozen fruit in the freezer ready to go, and it will help already make your smoothie cold!)
  • 1/2 a jalapeno

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and puree until smooth
