My Highlights of Feast Portland 2017

Last week, from Thursday September 14 to Sunday the 17th, was the incredible food festival Feast Portland in Portland that benefits this year’s charitable partner, Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. Over it’s 6 year run since 2012, Feast PDX has raised over $300,000 to help end childhood hunger in Oregon and across the country, not counting the 2017 contribution which is still being tallied. Besides benefiting such an important cause, Feast offers more then food and drink – it brings together food and drink makers and those who enjoy food and drink into a celebratory community.

Harvest Dinner with Tepuy at Hazelfern Cellars

This past Saturday, I was fortunate enough to attend the Harvest Dinner with Tepuy at Hazelfern Cellars. Tepuy Dining is named for a famous flat topped mountain in the Amazonian Jungle, and is a Venezuelan inspired Traveling Pop Up led by female chef Adriana Urbina (Food Network 2017 Chopped Champion). Tepuy was featured as one of “the best Venezuelan places to eat in NYC” in 2015 by Eater New York times. I was really intrigued about the idea of pairing Venezuelan flavors with Northwest ingredients and Hazelfern Cellars wine.

If you haven’t heard of Hazelfern Cellars before, they are a relatively new entry into the Oregon wine scene. Based in Newberg, Oregon, this family owned vineyard officially started making its small lot wines in 2014, growing from the original 5 gallons of Pinot Noir and a Portland basement has grown to over 500 cases of wine. One of the things that really stands out about Hazelfern is that head of the family and winemaker Bryan Laing is a huge food lover as well, and is really in tune with balancing flavors and textures in wine just like balancing flavors and textures in food.

Bite of Oregon 2017

This year, the Bite of Oregon 2017 food festival, which usually tastes place at Tom McCall Waterfront Park in August, has shifted to this weekend – Labor Day weekend September 1, 2, 3, and 4 – so it can be 4 days and has moved away from the dusty grounds of the park to the Rose Quarter.  The festival is still outside so you are still dining al fresco, but now boasts lots of shade, more tables, and it still benefits the worthy cause of the Special Olympics Oregon. Bite of Oregon  is a huge fundraiser for the Special Olympics Oregon which can help sustain the activities they offer of Special Olympics Athletes all year round.

Visiting Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors at Seattle Art Museum 2

As shared in my post last week on Yayoi Kusama, there are no more advanced tickets available for the Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors exhibit in Seattle, but there are always tickets available for the day of your visit if you go there before the museum opens and line up to try getting the first come, first serve tickets at 10 AM. After Seattle, the exhibit goes to The Broad in Los Angeles, and advanced tickets for the exhibit in The Broad go on sale at noon on September 1. If you can’t make it to the exhibit,  hopefully the photos and videos I am sharing in this post from when I was visiting Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors at Seattle Art Museum on August 12 will give you at least an idea of how amazing Kusama is.

Recap of Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors at Seattle Art Museum 1

There are no more advanced tickets available for the Yayoi Kusuma Infinity Mirrors exhibit in Seattle, but there are always tickets available for the day of your visit if you go there before the museum opens and line up to try getting the first come, first serve tickets at 10 AM. There are not many museums that will be displaying this incredible exhibition of 65 years of work by Yayoi Kusuma and bringing together the most Infinity Rooms into one place – in the US there are only four major museums. After Seattle the exhibit goes to The Broad in Los Angeles, and then it is off to Toronto Canada, Cleveland, and then Atlanta. The advanced tickets for the exhibit in The Broad go on sale at noon on September 1.

After a couple hours fighting the website on the online ticket sale day and their overwhelmed servers, I was able to get ticket for myself and 2 friends to visit the exhibit. So patience does pay off! Here is my Recap of Yayoi Kusama Infinity Mirrors at Seattle Art Museum which I hope may persuade you to make the trip to visit and see for yourself while you can. None of my photos or video really can do this justice – you just have to experience her artwork for yourself, in person. But, if you can’t make it, hopefully the photos give you at least an idea of how amazing Kusama is.
