Do you browse Instagram sometime and save a list of places to try based on photos you see? I do in multiple cities – including Portland of course. That’s how I found out about the cute desserts and drinks at Soro Soro Coffee and Dessert Cafe at 2250 E. Burnside St. This Korean dessert and coffee shop is small and simple but so precious. It is entirely easily instagrammable with its latte art and Asian bakery desserts with too cute faces that are sweet on appearance are not too sweet on flavor.
The cuteness is too irresistible for anyone – whether it be a group of girl friends squeeing at the kitty cheesecake face and getting their selfie in, a couple on a coffee date as they share the giant 3 ice cream scoop towering cotton candy cloud of an affogato, a family with kids as they destroy a sweet potato cake with a bear face, or a man with a sweet tooth and a fanny pack unable to resist an earl grey cake with googly eyes.
The thoughtful tiny touches are found in the cafe atmosphere from the tabletops to the walls to give a feel of sweetnesss even before you’ve had your dessert.
Beverages include the caffeinated espresso and coffee based, with a variety of milks available from whole to skim and for a small upcharge almond, soy, coconut, oat, or lactose free. There’s also tea, hot chocolate, matcha lattes, a couple milk teas, lemonade, and passionfruit lemonade. They use Stumptown coffee as well as Steven Smith teas.
Coffee drinks and non-coffee drinks come with a little bite of cream puff. The passionfruit lemonade has a heart shaped straw.
Desserts vary based on what they make that day and what is left from sales throughout the day. Desserts are packaged so they are ready to go or served on a doily and a wooden tray for dine in.
Desserts include cheese cake (regular flavor with the cat face, chocolate with the bear face), rainbow cake, strawberry or mango frasier, tiramisu, matcha tiramisu, red bean matcha cake, sweet potato cake, and earl grey cake and among others.
The affogato comes in two forms – regular and the snow affogato for an extra $3.50 in which you pour your espresso into the cotton candy cloud yourself. It’s a big portion – definitely enough to share.
Welcome to Portland SoroSoro – hopefully this can start an appreciation and trend for more Asian cafes that are not just on the far west or east side?
Which dessert or drink would you order?
Wow, SoroSoro is adorable! All the desserts are so cute, and that rainbow layer cake is especially eye catching. I wonder what vegan snacks they’ll have, but I would honestly be happy to just enjoy the decor and sip on a beverage. Hope more Asian cafes open in Portland!
WHAT. This place looks amazing. I’m taking my kids here ASAP!!!!!
How cute is that?! I love it!
