Headwaters Brunch

I’m going to share one of my brunch secrets – Headwaters PDX, a place that is never too crowded for brunch so I’ve easily walked in (they serve brunch both in their main restaurant area and their lounge area by their bar so have large capacity). PLUS they take reservations! It’s only been almost exactly a year since they opened and I’m not sure if not everyone knows they offer brunch. Whatever, this all adds up so it’s perfect when you have out of town guests and want to stick to a schedule and not have to wait around so you can get going on your way to other weekend adventures. The atmosphere is classy and the service has always been impeccable for anytime I stop in. Weekend brunch is available Saturday and Sunday 8 AM – 3 PM and they also serve breakfast on weekdays.

Start with a brunch cocktail – of course I always recommend a bloody mary. The Headwaters Mary version offers lemongrass green chili vodka and housemade bloody mary mix, horseradish, and Steigl Radler

But, my other favorite and highly recommended cocktail for your consideration is the Never Too Early brunch cocktail with aged rum old fashioned, averna, coffee syrup

The classic, filling choice is to go for the Biscuits and Gravy with buttermilk fried chicken and poached eggs. This is a really generous sized dish that can feed two easily. The chicken was crunchy and juicy and then just completely smothered with that delicious gravy that I was even smearing onto my breakfast potatoes.

For something unusual if you love eggs and are a big cheese fan, a really unique offering only for brunch is the Ajurli Khachapuri, a Georgian cheese flat bread with a soft egg – it’s great to share with 2 or 4 as a starter.

Their Dungeness Crab Omelette with gruyere, spinach, and breakfast potatoes is very generous with the amount of crab, I love it! They have this dish every day for breakfast or brunch.

And they also have available at Brunch their famous Crab Luigi with mixed lettuces, louie dressing, and it is surrounded by a ring of prosciutto and delicious tender fresh Dungneess Crab in the middle (optional add on).

I haven’t had a chance to order this yet, but I am looking actively to share this option on the menu: Headwaters Brunch Tower with smoked herring schmear, cream cheese, lettuce, onion, capers, sliced vegetables, pickles, basket of bread, bagels and crackers alogn with Beet Cured Salmon, Pastrami Sturgeon, Mustard Kippered Salmon, Smoked Sablefish, and Whole Smoked Herring. Order a Petite for $35 that serves 2-3 or a Grand that serves 4-6 for a brunch party. Who wants to party with me?

Lots of other seafood options are also available like fried oyster hash, egg benedict with salmon,  seafood cocktail appetizers, oysters and other shellfish, seafood towers, and Caviar on bread so if you have a seafood loving friend in town this is the perfect brunch to take her or him!

The menu is seasonal and subject to change anytime.

Have you been to Headwaters yet? What did you think? Where do you like to go for brunch that doesn’t have a wait or that takes reservations?
