I’ve been on a French Bistro craving recently, and been satisfied multiple times with visits to Bistro Agnes. Here are my favorite recommendations at Bistro Agnes for you to try if you visit.
For starters, the decadent Escargot and Button Mushrooms Gratin with herb and garlic butter, almond parmigiano cream, puff pastry are available at lunch and dinner.
Do you like pate and mousses? I hear that people are usually totally for or totally against. Count me in for team pate – and here at Bistro Agnes I can eat one of these Chicken Liver Mousse starters by myself, and they are available on all their menus. Don’t miss out on the specials menu either – during the summer I adored this cantelope melon with prosciutto and aleppo pepper.
For lunch and breakfast or brunch, the generously portioned Croque Madame with ham, gruyere, and mornay on griddled brioche with a sunny side egg is enough for two.
As an alternative brunch order, you can find items on the Bistro Agnes brunch menu you won’t usually see at other brunches. For instance, there is something so peaceful about sipping a huge bottomless mug of coffee while eating these light warm gougères with everything seasoning and gruyère.
I’m also in total obsession with the Bistro Agnes Smoked Salmon Rösti with that layer of crispy potato rösti, silky house smoked salmon carpaccio, and sexy poached egg, topped with dill, horseradish, and béarnaise.
Sometimes though, I just want a good steak for dinner. The Filet Mignon Au Poivre, a 6 oz black pepper-crusted beef tenderloin, madeira cream, roasted zucchini & summer squash shown here is perfection. It doesn’t come with a side – I’m a sucker for the frites here everytime.
And don’t miss out on the beautiful cocktails available at Bistro Agnes. They also have an impressive absinthe program, which you can order individually as a drip with sugar cube, or in absinthe cocktails. Some examples here I’ve had include
- Cavalier King Charlie with Dry Gin, Lemon, Blue Pea Flower, Tonic, Champagne Foam
- Society Island, with pisco, pineapple, coconut, absinthe, lime, and menthe
- Friar June with Suze Bitter, Lemon, Absinthe Spritz, Egg White, Meadow Flowers,
- Royal Corsica Yacht Club with Rum, Lime, Chartreuse, Falernum, Bleu, Absinthe
- Absinthe Drip
Have you been to Bistro Agnes before, what did you enjoy? Would you try absinthe, including absinthe cocktails?
I still haven’t made it to Bistro Agnes yet. That filet mignon looks so tempting! Thanks for your recommendations, Pech!
I have not been but hoping to change that soon! Ever since I went to France in January I’ve been trying to find a place that has cassoulet (which is not many in Portland!). I saw they have it on their menu so hoping to get here soon and try it!
Back when I was an omnivore, I would have been all about that croque madame. Right now though, I’m eyeing those cocktails. The colors are so vibrant and enticing!
I haven’t been to Bistro Agnes yet, but from the looks of your post, I definitely need to get in there soon! Everything looks so delicious!
