Chefs Week PDX 2017 Heritage Dinner

After several successful years of Chefs Week PDX, 2017 found Chefs Week PDX has been so successful that it has grown faster then anticipated, and the organizers wanted some time to hit the pause button to re-evaluate how to proceed. But leave it up to Chefs Week PDX that even on a year where they say they are going on hiatus, they still are putting together some individual pop up events. This was the first, taking place at Chesa on Sunday May 7 for $170 all inclusive and featuring seven West Coast chefs serving food inspired by heritage at the Chefs Week PDX 2017 Heritage Dinner.

Travel Israel – Jerusalem

In a few days, I will be leaving for a very quick business trip and travel to Israel. I’ll only be there Saturday-midnight on Tuesday and be back in Portland  by Wednesday morning. While there, my days are full of all day meetings with the exception of Saturday, the day I land. Having already enjoyed wandering around Jerusalem on my last visit to Israel in 2012, this time I am opting to stay in Tel Aviv, even though it means an hour commute each way to the office in Haifa. Here’s a quick summary of what I think I will do, call for any recommendations, and a few photos from my previous trip to Israel – aka chapter Travel Israel – Jerusalem.

Dine out for Restaurants for Raphael House

Every year, I like to highlight the Restaurants for Raphael House event. For May 17, 2017, 45+ Portland area restaurants are participating in this tradition, now in its seventh year, where you can dine out for breakfast, lunch, dinner, any time on May 17 and participating restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds to ensure our life-saving services are available to women, men, and children seeking safety from domestic violence.

I grabbed a milkshake from Ruby Jewel last year as one of the stops to support Restaurants for Raphael House

You can see the full list at their website, divided by areas of Portland (and a few in Lake Oswego and Beaverton) but a few summaries of what each of these restaurants offer based off a version of the list I saw this week include of what each of the participating restaurants are below. Recap of Our Secret Supper Leap Dinner

Today’s post is a photo journal of a the Our Secret Supper Leap Dinner. Our Secret Supper is another one of my picks for the EaterPDX Top Pop Ups and Supper Clubs in PDX. Our Secret Supper, led by Eva Kosmas Flores with Danielle Firle of Table Culture and working with Tournant, is differentiated from others in the Portland area because they bring together food and people with scenery. The location is generally at a destination guests must travel to (and often spend the night), making it an adventure event outside the meal itself.

The exact location of the dinner is kept secret until 24 hours before hand, adding an element of surprise – all you know is everyone always shares one long table usually set up outside at a beautifully tablescaped and thoughtfully curated space. Each event almost seems like you have stepped into a fairytale or glossy magazine photoshoot that you get to live in for a few hours.

Our Secret Supper has been on my to do list for a while, but this past April when I saw their date of their spring dinner, “Leap“, coincided with my birthday to the exact date, I decided to stop waiting for friends’ budgets and schedules to free up and treat myself. Here are the photos and my experience from my guest perspective of the Our Secret Supper Leap Dinner.

Shipwreck PDX

I was able to attend Shipwreck PDX at their first pop up in March at Jacqueline, and they made my Eater PDX top pop up list. I plan to attend again at their next pop up in May 15 next from 5 PM to 2 AM at Taqueria Nueve, which is now additionally partnering with Rum Club while waiting for your table. It’s a strong sign how they are continually improving and actively making choices by learning from their experience in March.
